Story starters

Once upon there was a man named John who had a hippo as his pet. One day He went out to feed him and suspected that his hippo Marlo was sick. He was rowelling and making weird noises, The man didn't know what was going on. The man tried to feed him " Come here Marlo, come on I know you want some food", but Marlo didn't want it. Marlo started to get angry and he looked like he wanted to eat John. The birds started to shiver in the trees making the tree rattle with a wake ness. Marlo started to come out of his habitat, and he started to walk towards John. John started to get scared and started to back up. Marlo looked like he wanted to eat John, then suddenly Marlo ran up and and opened his wide mouth and was ready to have his dinner, but then a lady came out of no where "move John" and the lady Mary just pulled out her gun and shot the hippo.

Heart rate

Heart rate is determined by the number of heartbeats per minute of time. The measurement of heart rate is used by medical professionals. 12 year olds heart rate should be in between 70-110 beats per minute when the child is at rest. To mesure your heart rate you put your two fingers on your risk and count how many beats you have per minute. When you start to get older our heart beats tend to get slower and your heart goes weaker.

Giving G8- Design your own challenge/ cook dinner for my family

On Monday 28 2013, I cooked dinner for my family. I made spaghetti and bake bean mini pies. They were delicious, even my brother rated me a 10/10. Now this is how to make them.

Ingredients:

* 12 slices sandwich bread
* 50g butter - melted
* 300g can Watties Spaghetti
* 300g can Bake Beans
* 1 cup of grated cheese
* 2-3 rashers bacon, chopped (optional)

Instructions:

1. Trim the crusts from the bread and brush one side of each slice with a little melted butter.
2. Push the bread slices, buttered side down into 12 muffin tins.
3. Bake at 180c for 15 minutes until crispy. At this stage the cases can be cooled and kept in an airtight container.
4. Fill the cases evenly with a spoonful of Watties Spaghetti. Top each with equal quantities of grated cheese and chopped bacon if using.
 5. Bake at 180c for 15 minutes until the cheese has melted, the bacon crispy and filling hot.
6. You can now serve :)

Tip: Make sure to keep these to cool down for about 15 minutes just to make sure its hot.

Room 43

Yesterday groups of 5 went at a time to visit room 43 next to us, they had to move because a couple weeks ago there was a fire caused by an air conditioner left on over night. For a week builders have been building a room for them, they will be staying in the new room 43 until the old room 43 is finished. When room 42 and room 41 got the news that room 43 would be moving into our Rimu area I was very annoyed that they took our place, but ever since I meet them yesterday I changed my idea. I had a lot of fun yesterday meeting them. Theres a boy named Bobby he was very helpful, he showed us around the classroom, it was very interesting to find out what difference they have then us. I hope to work with them sometime.

This weekend I spent cleaning up the house all weekend, my mum was very happy she said she thought it was mothers day. Surprisingly my mum planned a day out with Ashiannah on Sunday afternoon, unfortunately we had to change plans to next weekend, because she was to tired and hadn't had sleep.

Scientist discovery

Plastic

Alexandra was born in 1813 and died 1890. He was the first man who made plastic. He demonstrated parkesine in 1862 at the exhibition in London which was awarded a prize medal. It lead to a commercial and had a success of plastic products. Plastic is important because you wouldn't be getting fresh food, computers, tv, cars etc all this has plastic in it so if we did not have plastic we would not have these things.

Science

Science experiment

In primary school year 4, we had Miss Senegal, she prepared a science experiment for us. We had to get into a group of 5 of girls and boys. The equipment we needed was news papers, straws, scissors, sellotape and a hot wheel. The first step was to gather all the straws and try make a balance bridge, we then had to sellotape them to together. We had a difficulty when the straws were coming unbalanced and falling over thats mean we had to start over again. We then had to sellotape the newspapers onto the straws and try make a bridge. When we were finished and the bridge was ready we could try and experiment if the bridge could handle the hot wheel, if it could we were allowed to add more hot wheels. Our bridge got up to 7 hot wheels and we won for the most balanced bridge.

Camp

On Monday 6th May 2013, Rimu house went to Ngamuwahine camp for the week until the 11th of May. The activities were paintball, rafting, mountain biking, archery and can shooting, rock climbing wall, abseling.

I'm proud that I did the rabbit run when I didn't want to do it at first but when my team needed me to do it for more points I ended up doing it. It was really fun but very sore.

Believe it or not that at Ngamuwahine the water was really freezing it was known to be 8 degrees.

It made me laugh when I was running in paintball in the fields and I tripped on a stub and went flying into a tree and nearly got shot by David.

The biggest challenge was in rafting. In my team we had me, Grace, Catherine and Caine. We had  huge problem that Catherine had a fright and swam back to the parents and we could not leave without her I swam back in the cold water and helped her across the river. If I had not of did that we would have not got points for our team.

The tastiest treat I had at camp was the american hot dogs and the popcorn given by Steffanie's mum Ann.

The most rewarding was the bonus points for my team, we got 2 bonus points from paintball as we got the flag 2 times.
